C195 – AC and bidirectional DC contactors up to 1,500 volts

Single-pole NO or changeover contactors for DC or AC of up to 1,500 V of rated insulation voltage. Continuous current of up to 320 A. Bidirectional and bistable designs

Description

Detailed description

“A wide range of AC or DC contactors up to 1,500 volts rated insulation voltage and 320 A continuous current are based on the modular C195 range. The C195 X can switch DC voltage bidirectionally. It possesses blowout magnets and an electric arc arcing chamber. The bistable designs do not use any current in continuous operation and prevent the deep discharge of battery systems.

The magnetic drive of all designs can activated using voltages of 24 to 110 volts DC. Two S870 snap-action switches report the switch state of the main contacts to the higher-level control system.

AC and DC contactors of the C195 series can frequently switch loads. Developed for use in rail carriages, they also work in extreme ambient temperatures.”

Design features

“Compact design – 1,500 V rated insulation voltage
The C195 has a compact design in relation to the rated insulation voltage of up to 1,800 volts (C195 X design). In order to achieve the prescribed insulation parameters (clearance and creepage distances), the design has been optimised. Unidirectional DC design C195 A with blowout magnets and arcing chambers
During switch off, an electric arc is ignited between the opening contacts. The current flows on through the ionised air. Permanent magnets drive the ionised air out of the contact zone into the arcing chamber. Here, the electric arc is extended and cooled until it goes out.

The unidirectional DC design C195 A can carry up to 250 A continuously and up to 450 A for 3 minutes. The C195 A disconnects currents of up to 240 A with a voltage of 950 V (L/R = 1 ms). Bidirectional design C195 X – up to 1,500 V rated insulation voltage
Bidirectional DC contactors switch currents independently of the direction of current; e.g. during normal travel, charging or regeneration in electric vehicles.

The bidirectional design C195 A can carry up to 320 A continuously and up to 550 A for 3 minutes. The C195 X disconnects currents of up to 320 A with a voltage of 950 V (L/R = 1 ms). Bistable designs as a deep-discharge protection mechanism for batteries
In the bistable designs, the making and breaking of the main contact by the magnetic drive requires a switch pulse of 50 milliseconds. Both end positions are stable and do not require any further control voltage. No power is therefore consumed during continuous operation. We recommend the bistable design for the deep-discharge protection of batteries in emergency power supply systems (UPS). Auxiliary contacts with snap-action switches
Two S870 snap-action switches report the switch state of the main contacts to the higher-level control system. This changeover contact with positive opening is suitable for safety applications. Ambient temperature: –40°C up to +70°C
Due to the approval for rail applications (EN 60077-1, EN 60077-2), C195-series contactors can be used in extreme temperatures. Applications: High DC loads switch frequently
The C195 series is designed for switching high DC loads frequently. There are versions for all DC applications of up to 1,500 volts in which currents have to be switched off unidirectionally or bidirectionally:

Photovoltaic systems
Fuel cells
Electric vehicles
Deep-discharge protection for UPS systems (bistable design)
Railway technology
DC drives of machinery”
